Itinerary:

Enjoy a visit to Backus, where history meets nature! The hike combines a hike through the Backus Woods along the visit to the Heritage Village located in Southwestern Ontario.

Backus Woods is a spectacular older-growth Carolinian forest where some of the oldest living trees in Ontario are found. Variety of tree species including black oak, beech, sugar maple, red maple and red pine. You will see Tulip Trees, Flowering Dogwood, Sassafrass, American Chestnut along with many other ferns and wild flowers. There is a also variety of bird species, Chickadee, Salamander, Woodpecker, Warbler, Owl, Eastern Hognose and a haven for at-risk species.

Hike will be at a moderate pace and the terrain has rolling hills and wetland areas.

At exit Fairview Dr, keep RIGHT onto Ramp
Turn LEFT (West) onto Fairview Dr
Turn LEFT (South) onto HWY 24 (King George Road)
Bear LEFT (South) onto HWY 2 [HWY 24]
Turn RIGHT (South-West) onto HWY 24
Turn LEFT (South) onto HWY 24
At Simcoe, stay on HWY 24 [Norfolk St N]
Passing East Quarter Line, watch carefully for a small Backus Woods sign on left
Turn LEFT (South) into narrow bush road to parking lot
