Scarborough Bluffs + Doris McCarthy + Guildwood ++ 28k (8/8/2015)

Itinerary:


This event is restricted to experienced hikers who have D4 experience on hikes of at least 20 km.
28 km is a considerable distance!!

Everyone starts on the waiting list, and may be added to the event after confirmation of experience level.
If you have not been on my D4 hikes before, then when registering please include in the NOTES section a description of your TOC hiking experience, distances, terrain etc.


Let's hike starting from the Doris McCarthy Trail head, along the top and bottom of the Scarborough Bluffs, on the beach, and through some excellent forested parkland.
28 km along a mix of sandy and rocky beach, gravel, paved and dirt paths, may be a few muddy areas

DISTANCE: 28 km

PACE: about 5.5 km/h

DIFFICULTY: D5 => distance and pace

There will be a few steep difficult ascents and descents. Along the beach we will encounter logs, rocks and boulders and other obstacles as well as lots of sand

This is the route we will take.

  • start at Doris McCarthy Trail head
  • south to the beach
  • east along the beach to Guildwood Park
  • ascend, loop the park, descend to the beach
  • continue east to Lower Highland Creek Park
  • lunch break may be somewhere on the beach
  • through Morningside park
  • short stop in a GO station for refreshments + WC
  • descend back to the beach
  • back to the starting location

If coming by transit, allow lots of time to get there on time.

BY TRANSIT: Take the 102 Bus from Warden Station. (I got this info from google maps. you should confirm TTC routes and schedules)

BY CAR: Park on a side street near the start of the hike.

(although kerfuffles, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, tornadoes, general discombobulation and consternation, or hurricanes may cause cancellation)
