Itinerary:
Learn how REAL maple syrup is made - on a family-owned farm.

The Horton Family Tree farm is located near Stouffville. They have hiking trails, tours of the sugarbush, a museum, pancakes...

I ran this event last year, and it was really enjoyable. It's another great year to do this, with the abundance of snow on the ground. That's the best way to experience a truly traditional and authentic tour of a Sugar Shack!

Depending on how busy it is when we arrive, we might have our pancakes first, or the tour first…

Tour of the farm: we’ll learn at each station how maple syrup goes from maple tree to a bottle on your table! (Hint: it takes 40 L of maple sap to produce only 1 L of the finished thing!) There’s also a hiking trail that we can take before we leave to warm up and walk off some of our breakfast.

Pancakes: Enjoy some made-on-the-spot pancakes with REAL maple syrup! They also have a variety of teas to try out. When I was last there, they had hemlock (no, not the poisonous kind) and sumac tea, plus maple coffee.

Expect to spend about $6 on pancakes. If you want to buy real maple syrup to take home, they have all different sizes! You might want to budget around $20 for that as well.

You must bring CASH for everything, they don't take credit or debit. I suggest you bring:

$6.50 - entrance fee to the farm - Mandatory
    $6.00 - pancakes
$20.00 - take home maple syrup
$6.00 - car pool (passengers, but sometimes we have excess drivers who become passengers, so bring it just in case)
    Total: $38.50 in CASH

Finally, the tour is slow, and we'll be standing around a lot not moving much. You MUST bring WARM BOOTS, otherwise your feet will freeze and you will be grumpy.
