Itinerary:
This is not an arduous trip nor a true beginner trip. The largest lake can be windy and can require strong paddling for a couple of hours, depending upon the conditions. The portages (we have 4) are not all that long but it would be nice to pack light enough to go through them in one carry.

If you have canoed with me before, you are welcome to sign up without providing your canoeing experience. If we have not canoed together before, please send me a brief summary of your canoeing experience and/or the name of another club member with whom you have canoed.

The car pool departure time is somewhat negotiable (i.e. we could leave earlier but not later than 8a.m). I would like to be settled on the site by 5.
Saturday: Drive to Kearney, get canoes & permits. Canoe through Magnetewan, Hambone, Ralph Bice, Little Trout and to a site we like (or can find) on Queer
Sunday: explore other lakes or relax at the site. We could go into Misty (a 2500m portage but with just the canoe and day gear, it's fine when we share the canoe carrying)
Monday: Do the whole thing in reverse and drive home.

A pre-trip meeting will be held on Tuesday Aug 12 at 8:00pm at the Loblaws above St. Clair West station. When you get to the floor on which groceries are sold, walk toward the cashiers and stop at the tables on your right. If you get to the cashiers, you have gone too far.

Please do not sign up if you are not able to take Monday off OR you are bringing your own canoe, we know each other and I am comfortable that you can canoe out safely. Depending on the park rules about partial attendance, you may be required to pay park fees for both nights.

The intent is that we will share meal purchasing and preparation responsibilities that will accommodate all food restrictions. If there are people that strongly prefer to do their own meals, we will adjust accordingly. Please come to the pre-trip meeting prepared to volunteer for some of the communal food activities.

NOTE: WE WILL FOLLOW ALL PARK RULES. NO CANS. NO GLASS BOTTLES/JARS, WE DO NOT DAMAGE STANDING VEGETATION (CUT, STRIP BARK, ETC), OBSERVE FIRE BANS (if in effect)
I go to the parks to enjoy and respect the environment. I want to share my time with others who feel similarly. This is a non-smoking trip.

While the maximum group size is 9, this will depend upon the availability of a 3 person canoe, which will be confirmed at the pre-trip meeting.
