Itinerary:

A very fast (and cold) guided Kayak/Canoe paddle down the Nith River between Hoobie's Hollow and Bean Park in Paris - suitable for intermediate/experienced paddlers alike. From Toronto, carpool and drive to the outfitter's shop, sign in, take our cars to the END location of the trip, outfitter will shuttle us to the START of the trip and we'll then paddle back down to our cars 5 minutes from downtown Paris. The paddle is approx. 4 hours long.

About this event:

This event is co-hosted and will be guided by GRAND EXPERIENCES.

Grand Experiences is one of the leading canoe & kayak training centers in Southern Ontario. They work with schools, scouts & guides, corporate groups & individuals to provide canoe, river kayak & sea kayak training. They are fully insured on the road and the water. All guide staff is certified in first aid/CPR and The Ontario Recreational Canoeing & Kayaking Association (ORCKA) certifies our wilderness guides and instructors.

Your trained and experienced guides will lead you through the river and rapids for a 4 hour paddle, including a supplied hot lunch and riverside campfire. Definitely expect a physically demanding paddle and the real possibility of getting wet!

We'll be having a social pub/restaurant gathering in Paris - just across from the outfitter's shop - after the paddle. Optional shopping, cafe visits, scenic walks by the river is available in the picturesque town of Paris as well.

This event will go ahead rain or shine and will only be canceled by the service provider - refunds will be given.

  • The outfitter will provide a hot lunch - details to follow.
  • The outfitter will provide wetsuits for all participants.
  • Life jacket is to be worn at all times.
  • You will NOT be required to tip into the river and get soaked doing the "wet-exit".
  • No swimming skills are necessary to participate in this event.
  • Our guides or myself will always remain the lead and sweep paddlers of our group.

    Costs

  • Regular kayak price of $119, is discounted for TOC to Mar 28th: $89
  • Regular canoe price of $109, is discounted for TOC to Mar 28th: $83.62

    Prices+HST will be re-adjusted and re-posted after Mar 28th.


  • Required Items to Bring:
  • 2L of water/sport drink
  • Lunch is provided - please bring snacks
  • Wear comfortable, layered, waterproof, outdoor clothing
  • Water shoes, sturdy sandals or running shoes
  • Bringing a change of clothes is highly recommended in such wet, cold conditions
  • Rain gear is equally highly recommended
  • Small towel or sponge to wipe off excess water splashes or rain
  • Waterproof bag(s)/camera case
  • Hat, sunglasses and camera
  • Money(for carpool, social, coffee/pub stop)

    Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $53.66 (calculated at total Km * $0.258, effective Tuesday, April 23, 2024). This is based on $0.08/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Your event coordinator will confirm exactly how much money is required from each person.

    - Registration is NOT COMPLETE until you've signed up and paid by the registration cut off date. The money must be in the TOC's possession by that date. No exceptions.
    - When a minimum group size appears, this is to let you know that the event will be cancelled with full refunds to those who have already paid, if the minimum number of registered participants is not met. For any events where TOC needs a minimum number of participants, there will be absolutely no refund of money if you cancel.
    - We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines at all times while participating in TOC events.

    Discounted until Mar 28th - Total Cost for: Kayak option is $91.67 and Canoe option is $86.12 and is itemized as follows:

  • Kayak option - $91.67 - Cost of event+HST($89.00) + TOC transaction fee* $2.67
  • Canoe option - $86.12 - Cost of event+HST($83.62) + TOC transaction fee* $2.50

    *TOC transaction fee (associated with payments through Paypal) 3% of event cost.

    Includes: school bus transportation up river, boats, paddles, life jacket, wet suite, guides, instruction, hot lunch and riverside fire.

    Please contact me (event organizer) if you wish to use your own boat/gear/lunch. There will be a transportation/shuttle cost.
