ALGONQUIN - SPRING HIKING!

HEY! THIS IS IMPT! Read the whole listing before signing up to make sure you know what you are signing up for!

OVERVIEW

Woohoo spring in Algonquin - it could be a bit of a mudfest! We will have a fun weekend, staying at the Wolfden! It's a fantastic hostel/eco lodge on the outskirts of Algonquin park, and has cosy bunkrooms and a large shared kitchen and communal areas. I've booked the whole place for the weekend! Check out photos from last spring's trip during the spectacular spring runoff here.

DATE, TIME, AND COST

We'll travel up Friday afternoon/evening and return on Sunday. I'll try to sort out a carpool that will attempt to accommodate people's individual schedules, bearing in mind that Friday's departure times will depend on the available drivers and that the official leaving time is 5:00pm. Priority will go to people with good attendance records!
If you absolutely cannot leave until after 5pm please include the earliest time you can leave the city in the Notes section when you sign up, and do not pay until confirming with me. Official carpool time is 5pm!

The per person cost for the weekend's accommodation works out to approximately $66.00 (which includes a 3% TOC transaction fee). This cost is due up front by paying the TOC's Treasurer. Payment must be received by Mar 25th or you will be removed from the event. On Mar 26th, anyone who hasn't paid will be removed and places will go to people on the waiting list based on who's paid first. .

If you're participating in the carpool, expect an additional cost on top of that for transportation. You will need to pay for that over the weekend so please bring cash. (Small bills help a lot!)

ACCOMMODATIONS

There are several rooms available both in the main lodge and in the satellite cabins. Expect to share a room with 3-4 others (I'll try to help guide early risers to match with early risers to keep things copacetic, but there are no guarantees.)

There is a private room with a double bed available. Any two people who wish to take advantage of this may request them from me: the first to request AND PAY, will get it. Confirm with me before paying that you're first in line for the room.

Communal bathrooms and showers are available in the main lodge.

Bedding and towels are provided.

ACTIVITIES

While there are hiking trails within a short walk of the Wolfden (not to mention a great waterfall) we're right on Algonquin's doorstep!

With this many people, there will be multiple groups heading out both days so there should be various levels of hikers to suit everyone. I will not be organizing any specific hikes or activities, you are free to decide what you want to do in collaboration with other participants. For those who like photo hikes, I will be bringing my DSLR. It's the best time of year to see moose in Algonquin, plus there are some tracts of old growth forest I hope to check out. These are huge trees that are 200-300 years old...

In the evenings expect a social atmosphere upstairs in the loft talking or playing games, and in all likelihood, a campfire outside. And woohoo there is a sauna :)

FOOD

The Wolfden has a large, fully equipped kitchen available for our use.

Saturday evening we'll organize an (optional) potluck dinner. There are usually options for veggies and celiacs, however, please include info on any special dietary needs in the Notes when you sign up

Beyond that, meal planning will be up to each of you. (You may wish to look for like minded people on the trip or in your carpool. We can help here.)
