Itinerary:
So what are your plans for this Sunday? Xmas shopping by elbowing past stressed-out strangers in crowded, fluorescent-lit malls while the sun shines outside? Why would you do that to yourself???? Especially when instead you could join the TOC on a relaxing day OUTSIDE in the Niagara region AND do your Xmas shopping???

This event will bring together three awesome things: waterfalls, a nature walk (i.e., GENTLE hike), and some award-winning wines.

We will visit Balls Falls Conservation area (http://www.conservation-niagara.on.ca/conservation_areas/ballsfalls/ballsfalls.html), which has not one but two waterfalls as well as some hiking trails. We’ll stroll around and take pictures (be warned: I’m bringing my tripod!) and enjoy the beautiful day.

After a couple of hours or so, we’ll head over to Flat Rock Cellars, a nearby winery (http://flatrockcellars.com/). Being the dedicated, selfless TOC volunteer that I am, I have done my research - Flat Rock has some good stuff! Their “Twisted” white wine is fantastic, and their 2005 Riesling was just named “white wine of the year” in the 2006 Canadian Wine Awards. And it’s difficult to find in an LCBO – I’ve tried! So visiting the winery and buying a bottle or two might be a great gift for a loved one, or it just might be a nice present to yourself that you can bring to the TOC Kris Kringle party!

The weather forecast for Sunday is currently calling for a mix of sun and cloud, with a high of 9C, so wear layers that you can adjust throughout the day.

As noted above, the walking we do at Balls Falls will be more of a stroll than a hike. However, participants should be comfortable spending at least a couple of hours on their feet.

Considering the distance, the short daylight hours,, etc., it might be best if you brought a bagged lunch you could eat either en route or at the conservation area. However, at the end of our event we might find a place for a coffee or bite to eat.
