Itinerary:

CANADA DAY: CYCLING WEEKEND IN COLLINGWOOD

Collingwood has some fantastic cycling routes with spectacular views out over Georgian Bay from the top of the escarpment. We will be riding 60-80 km a day through rolling farmland and small country villages. Roads are generally well maintained roads with low traffic. Expect some challenging hills.

ACCOMMODATION: We will be staying at the Highlands Nordic Farmhouse in Duntroon, about 12 km outside of Collingwood. There is a large living room with a fireplace where we can relax at the end of the day as well as an outdoor fire pit and sauna. All bedrooms have several (mostly twin) beds, so you will be sharing accommodations with other TOC members (bed linens are provided). If you are a couple, please indicate this in the notes on your sign up - there are a couple of double beds. Cost for the farmhouse is $280 per night, divided by the total participants. We are sharing the accommodations with a group of TOC hikers lead by Alison Munro. There may be a refund for accommodation if we have higher numbers.

DIFFICULTY RATING: Our focus on this weekend will be cycling: we will cycle at least 60 km per day on each of three consecutive days. You should be able to cycle at an average speed of about 20 km per hour in order to qualify for participation in this event, and should have done at least a few day-long rides of 50 km or longer prior to registering. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE REMOVED IF THEY DO NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY EXPERIENCE.

FOOD: The Farmhouse has a fully equipped kitchen with an oven/stove, microwave oven, fridge, dishes, and utensils for us to use. Meals will be communal with everyone sharing in preparation and cleanup. Expect costs of about $50 for the weekend. You will be responsible for snacks on the road when biking.

WEATHER: In case of severe rain there will be an option to go hiking.

SIGN UP INSTRUCTIONS: When you sign up please answer the following questions in the comments section.
Drivers, and possible drivers…
* How many passengers can you take with you, and can you also take bikes?
For everyone...
* Are you taking bikes up with you? * Please note if you are veggie/vegan or have food restrictions.

HELMETS: TOC policy is that all cyclists must wear a helmet at all times.
CARPOOL: Please sign up only if you can make the carpool time: Thurs at 2 pm at Downsview subway station. It's the long weekend so let's not delay getting out of the city.
