Itinerary:

WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF GIANTS...DISCOVERY WALK...TORONTO...

The route: a moderately-paced urban walk from Etienne Brule Park and Kings Mills Park following the south Humber River Trail to the Waterfront Trail to Lakeshore Blvd. and on through High Park ending at Bloor St. at High Park Subway.

Bring FOOD as we will stop for light dinner by Humber Bay Bridge/Park.

This walk follows in the footsteps of:

  • an ancient trail system - what is known today as the Toronto Carrying-Place Trail, running from Lake Ontario up the Humber to Lake Simcoe and eventually to the northern Great Lakes.
  • Seneca and other First Nations traders,
  • Etienne Brule, Rene-Robert Cavelier de La Salle, Champlain and the French Explorers,
  • John Graves Simcoe(founded York - now Toronto),
  • John G. Howard(created and gave High Park to the city),
  • the British Grenadiers(Grenadier Pond and the war of 1812),
  • the Humber Watershed and the Toronto Waterfront
  • Discovery Point - "From a nearby spot, Lake Ontario was first seen by a white man: Étienne Brűlé September 9, 1615".

  • This outing will NOT be suitable for beginner/first time hikers in TOC, unless you email me and indicate your fitness experience and willingness to push a little harder....

  • drop out point are available along this walk
  • We are expecting to walk over varied terrain(flat trails, gravel, road walk, grass, etc).
  • AND YES, THIS EVENT GOES AHEAD RAIN OR SHINE, OR SNOW, OR WHAT EVA!


  • Required Items to Bring:
    • Hiking Boots or good quality(supportive) Runners
    • An additional Light Jacket - as it will get late and cooler by the lake
    • Water, hot beverage, food, camera
    • Poncho/Rain Jacket - just in case!
    • $1 - voluntary TOC donation - 2010 membership badges will be available to purchase($20)

  • If meeting Via TTC: meet just outside the Subway entrance
  • If meeting by Car/Driving: park at Etienne Brule Park - SOUTH PARKING as follows:

  • From west of Toronto: Hwy. 401 to Hwy 427 south to Gardiner Exp. Eastbound. Exit at Islington Ave. north to Bloor Street eastbound. Turn left on Humber Trail. Turn right on Old Mill Rd. Turn Left into park.
  • From east of Toronto: Hwy. 401 to Don Valley Parkway south to Gardiner Exp westbound. Exit South Kingsway Blvd, northbound to Bloor St. Turn right to Old Mill Trail then right to Old Mill Rd. Turn Left into park.
