Itinerary: | |||||||
I recently went on this ride and found that there was far less traffic than I anticipated. I am therefore re-rating this ride to a D3. There was only one very short section with a fare amount of taffic. The other sectoins had very little. In fact, in some places we saw more bicyclists than cars!
We will meet at Union Station at the GO ticket wickets in the lower level, at 9:50am about 20 minutes before the train leaves. We will buy return tickets and use the elevator to get our bikes to the platform. Ideally, there should only be a maximum of 4 bikes to a carriage, two at each end. Bikes are places behind and in front of the 2 vertical steel poles, next to the seats as you walk in the door. Please allow passengers to get on board first. After a 30 minute train ride we will disembark at the Rouge Hill station We will ride north through eastern Scarborough to Markham, up Reesor Rd, by the farm gate of my grandparents’ former farm to Stouffville Main St, where we will look for a restaurant in which to have lunch. We will then retrace our route back to the Rouge Hill GO station. On the way, if the group wants we can detour into the "New Urban" development called Cornell. We will probably catch the 4:07 pm, 5:07 or the 6:07 pm train back to Union station. If we have time an the inclination we can explore the nearby beach on Lake Ontario.
If you have not ridden with me before, you MUST answer the following questions in the notes sections of the sign up page:
1. Do you agree to wear a bicycle helmet? 2. Are you experienced, comfortable, and safe riding in traffic i.e. with automobiles? 3. Are you able to bring a spare tube for your bicycle? 4. Does your bicycle fit you well? 5. Is your bicycle mechanically sound?
